Welcome to Café Tsubaki, an enchanting café nestled on the fifth floor of a museum in the heart of Hiroo, Tokyo. This hidden gem offers not only a delightful culinary experience but also a serene atmosphere that captivates visitors seeking a taste of authentic Japanese sweets.

As you step inside Café Tsubaki, you're greeted by a charming setting, where the gentle sounds of rain tapping against the glass walls create a cozy backdrop. The café's interior is elegantly decorated, seamlessly blending traditional Japanese aesthetics with modern comfort. This picturesque spot features a lovely view of the surrounding trees and the road outside, making it an ideal place to unwind.

What sets Café Tsubaki apart is its exquisite selection of wagashi, traditional Japanese confections that are as beautiful as they are delicious. Each piece is crafted with precision, reflecting the artistry of the current museum exhibit—a perfect pairing for art enthusiasts who appreciate culinary creativity. Reviewers rave about the delightful matcha and wagashi set, priced at 1350 yen. Many patrons, like Darlene Schmidt, noted how perfectly the slight bitterness of the matcha complements the sweetness of the wagashi, creating a harmonious balance that you won’t soon forget.

Customers consistently praise the kindness of the staff, who make every visit special. M R described the atmosphere as wonderful, emphasizing the relaxing environment created by watching the rain dance outside. Meanwhile, Olivia K. couldn't resist highlighting how "the wagashi was so beautiful and tasty," and that the tea “was delicious,” making it a must-try.

A visit to Café Tsubaki is not just about the food; it's about the experience. While some may come for the museum, many leave enchanted by the café's unique offerings. Whether you're in the mood to savor some artisanal sweets with a cup of fragrant ocha or simply seek a moment of tranquility amidst your sightseeing adventures, this quaint café has something for everyone.

For an unforgettable experience that intertwines art and gastronomy, make sure to stop by Café Tsubaki during your Tokyo exploration. You won’t regret indulging in their delicious wagashi while enjoying the serene ambiance.

I had the opportunity to taste the selection of wagashi that I heard about. Really delicious with the ocha (green tea ). I highly recommend it if you are close by or visiting the museum.

Quaint little cafe inside the museum that serves authentic japanese sweets. The atmosphere was great and the staff are kind. There's a glass wall on the side where one can see the trees and road outside. It was raining when we went and it was relaxing to look at the rain, the wind and the trees.

wagashi and matcha set was 1350 yen, a bit high price, but it’s so worth it! this wagashi was sweet, but bitterness of matcha covered it perfectly also, as soon as i came, i got a glass of water very nice atmosphere and view, out of cafe zone there’s a film about museum’s paintings in japanese with english subtitles, but i could see it from my seat as well there’s not a lot of customers on thursday’s lunch time, maybe 4 more people except me, so you can sit here in calm

I don't really recommend the museum, but I do recommend the cafe. The wagashi was so beautiful and tasty and the tea was delicious:)

Cafe located inside the musuem serving wagashi and tea. The wagashi were inspired by the art of the current exhibit, so it was really enjoyable to browse the gallery, then pick the wagashi that matched my favorite art.

It is smaller than I thought. very popular place. we had coffee that is blended from kyoto. many of their food and sweets are well thought out. many types of wagashi, japanese sweets, that are inspired from exhibited art, very interesting! few unique types of tea too si its good for people who cant have coffee, matcha, green tea and oolong tea. I dont think it is a place you can stay long but to pop by before or after exhibition

I damn near cried, this was so good. Would be my last meal. A feast for your senses to be sure...the cheesecake is fluffy yet creamy and lightly sweetened...the refreshing iced matcha on a hot summer day...the cool feeling of the textured glass...hell, even the experience of this wooden fork on your tongue as you slowly work your way through...a true sensual symphony! And what better way to digest than to walk through the stunning museum downstairs! This place has the whole package, folks! An absolute must-see in Tokyo!
